The Department of Education (DepEd) has announced a collaboration with the World Bank to reinforce its dedication to supporting educators in the Philippines. This commitment was highlighted during the launch of the Teacher Effectiveness and Competencies Enhancement Project (TEACEP) at the DepEd Central Office in Pasig City, led by Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Z. Duterte. Facilitated through a loan agreement with the World Bank, the project is expected to benefit approximately 57,800 licensed K-6 teachers, 6,060 school heads, and 1.88 million students in Grades K-6 across all public elementary schools in three regions of Mindanao.
"We are more committed than ever to the MATATAG Agenda, particularly in prioritizing the enhancement of our teachers' skills. With the assistance of the World Bank-International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and in collaboration with the Department of Finance, we are actively working to bolster student learning outcomes in Zamboanga Peninsula, Soccsksargen (South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani, and General Santos City), and BARMM (Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao) through the Teacher Effectiveness and Competencies Enhancement Project (TEACEP)", Duterte stated.
TEACEP, designed to elevate the quality of education and ensure equitable access to teaching in the mentioned regions, will concentrate on improving literacy and numeracy skills. Additionally, it is anticipated to assist DepEd in implementing institutional reforms aimed at enhancing teacher professional development and competency standards. Meanwhile, Dr. Ndiamė Diop, the World Bank Country Director for Brunei, Malaysia, Philippines, and Thailand, expressed strong support for TEACEP and DepEd's MATATAG Agenda. He reiterated the World Bank's enthusiastic endorsement of this significant educational investment, emphasizing its alignment with the MATATAG Agenda, which serves as a comprehensive guiding framework for educational interventions in the country.
