Maxis and Penang Government Join Forces to Boost Digital Skills

  • The Penang State Government has teamed up with Maxis to elevate digital literacy among residents and students throughout the state through digital education and skills development initiatives. This collaboration extends Maxis’ dedication to promoting community growth and digital adoption in the region. In 2023, Maxis entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Digital Penang to further enhance digital adoption among micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Penang.

YB Jagdeep Singh Deo, Penang's Deputy Chief Minister II and State Exco for Human Capital Development, Science, and Technology, underscored the crucial role of digital skills in driving Penang's inclusive growth agenda, aligned with the vision outlined in Penang2030. “As part of this inclusive vision, we want to tap into opportunities in the digital economy and develop a digitally engaged society. In line with this, we look forward to working closely with Maxis on their flagship community programmes on digital marketing and after-school learning”, he said.

As part of the collaboration, Maxis will deliver training in digital marketing skills to entrepreneurs and young people in Penang through its eKelas and eKelas Usahawan programs. Since 2021, these initiatives have successfully educated nearly 7,000 entrepreneurs nationwide. In Penang alone, over 440 entrepreneurs have already gained from this training effort.

Goh Seow Eng, CEO of Maxis, expressed appreciation for the partnership and the opportunity to expand the company’s eKelas Usahawan and eKelas programmes across the state. “In line with our belief that ‘Tomorrow Begins Today,’ we can, together, develop future-ready entrepreneurs and youths who will be able to thrive in the digital economy of tomorrow,” Seow Eng added.

Maxis remains committed to collaborating closely with Penang's state education departments to effectively implement and promote educational programs in local schools. The objective is to enrich the learning journey and equip students with essential skills for the digital era.
