Sri Lanka and Nepal planned to review the higher education policies

  • The scheme submitted by the education minister Susil Premajayantha got approved in Sri Lanka’s cabinet. The motive of the proposal was to sign an agreement with the Nepal government so that the students and teachers of both countries could communicate in a better way. Cabinet spokesperson, Bandula Gunawardena said, "The agreement will pave the path for improving quality of higher education in both countries". It will also help to enlarge the education system and make the bonds between countries even stronger. The agreement would include provisions for exchange programs.

    It will smooth the path for student exchange programs and lecturer exchange programs between the two countries and will provide convenience in discussing technical and educational matters. Nepal is the neighbour of Sri Lanka and a SAARC member too. Most of the Sri Lankan Students are enrolled in private medical universities of Nepal. Gunawardena said that the higher education institutes of both countries should come together to strengthen the education system.

    Many students have moved to Nepal for higher education in the past two years. Sri Lanka plans to open more colleges for higher education and invite students from abroad to enrol in local degree programs.
