South Korea and WHO to Host World Bio Summit

  • The Health Ministry said it plans to co-host an annual biotechnology convention next month with the World Health Organization (WHO), bringing experts together to discuss strategies for a stable global healthcare supply chain.

The Ministry of Health and Welfare said Monday the World Bio Summit 2024 will be held under the theme "Future investment for a healthy and secure decade," to take place from November 11-12 in Incheon, west of Seoul.

"The World Bio Summit 2024 will provide a platform for dialogue to counter and prepare against health care dangers around the world," quoted Health Minister.

This is the third of its kind, and it is going to attract the health ministers and other seniors from governments, businesses, and global organizations for now to ponder on some issues that beleaguer the vaccine and biotechnology sectors.

According to the ministry, "Participants are expected to share the current trends, such as innovative research and development, strengthening of global supply chains, and how to improve biotechnology capabilities while exploring ways of expanding global cooperation".

During the summit, the ministry said on the sidelines, Asian Development Bank, the International Vaccine Institute, among others major organizations plan to participate in seminars and other events.

The ministry will also host the Global Business Lounge during the summit efforts to expand South Korean health care companies' cooperation, globally.

The WHO stresses that additional funding is urgently required to bridge the gap in meeting mental and sexual and reproductive health needs for nearly 1.3 billion adolescents around the world, aged 10-19 years, while ensuring the evolution of health risks are addressed.

Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of WHO, was quoted recently saying, "Promoting and protecting the health and rights of young people is essential to building a better future for our world".
