Sompo Care and NSDC International Collaborate to Train Indian Nurses for Japan

  • NSDC International Limited, a fully owned subsidiary of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), has entered into a partnership with Sompo Care Inc. to offer training programs for Indian nursing care professionals and assist their transition to Japan. As part of the Government of India’s “Skill India Mission,” NSDC International is committed to developing top-notch human resources. By improving skills and creating international work opportunities, the organization seeks to contribute to industrial growth and secure a better future for the Indian workforce.

Sompo Care and NSDC International have joined forces to provide training programs and facilitate the integration of skilled Indian professionals into Japan’s nursing care sector. This collaboration seeks to bridge the gap and improve the quality of care services in Japan. By addressing workforce shortages in Japan and creating job opportunities for skilled Indian workers, the partnership aims to deliver mutual benefits.

Mr. Ved Mani Tiwari, CEO, NSDC & MD, NSDC International said, “We are thrilled to announce the commencement of our collaboration with SOMPO Care Inc. This partnership marks a significant milestone for NSDC International, as it allows us to provide specialized training programs for Indian nursing care personnel, enhancing their skills and preparing them for opportunities in Japan. Together, we aim to bridge the gap in healthcare services and support the global demand for skilled nursing professionals. This initiative not only opens new avenues for our workforce but also strengthens the bond between India and Japan in the field of healthcare”.

Mr. Takamitsu Washimi, Representative Director, President and CEO, Sompo Care said, “We are very pleased to begin our collaboration with NSDC International. Guided by our management’s philosophy of “Respect for Humanity,” we aim to provide optimal care tailored to each elderly individual and are committed to developing care personnel with specialized knowledge and skills. We are confident that the training program, developed based on our expertise and experience, will enhance the skills of Indian care personnel. We hope that those who complete the training will work with a sense of fulfillment and pride in Japan’s nursing care sector. Through this collaboration, we aspire to build a better future through mutual cooperation between Japan and India”.

The inaugural initiative of this collaboration is a pilot project scheduled to begin in August 2024 and continue through 2025. The project will provide Indian nursing care professionals with nine months of thorough education and training in India. After this period, they will be employed as skilled workers at Sompo Care facilities in Japan. Drawing on its deep expertise in Japan, Sompo Care will create specialized training programs in addition to the Japanese language courses offered by NSDC International. These programs will focus on understanding Japanese-style nursing care, learning essential care terminology, and mastering cross-cultural communication.

The goal is to cultivate highly motivated and skilled Indian nursing care professionals who are ready for immediate deployment. Sompo Care will provide ongoing support for their professional development even after they start working at its facilities. The pilot project and training program will be thoroughly assessed and adjusted as necessary. Depending on the outcomes, Sompo Care will consider the possibility of expanding operations in India and developing a comprehensive collaboration model.
