Seoul National University Hospital Leads $12.6B Bio Innovation Project

  • Seoul National University Hospital announced on the 5th that it has been chosen as the leading organization for the 'Global Bio Scale-Up Corporations Fostering Project.' Over the next six years, the hospital will invest 12.6 billion won to support the research and development (R&D) of promising domestic bio companies. The project aims to identify companies with innovative technologies in new drugs, advanced bio, medical devices, and digital healthcare, providing assistance in technology development, commercialization, and market entry both domestically and internationally. Seoul National University Hospital plans to offer these companies access to its clinical research infrastructure and support R&D through a medical big data research platform. In the first phase, companies such as MediaRx, Illumina Therapeutics, Hyuntech EnBio, Micro-T, Sofente, Imocog, and Connective have been selected.

    The National Mental Health Center of the Ministry of Health and Welfare announced on the 5th that it held the '63rd Anniversary Event of the National Mental Health Center.' This center, established in 1962 as the country's first national psychiatric hospital, is a national mental health institution under the Ministry of Health and Welfare. In 2016, it was reorganized as the control tower for the enhancement of national mental health, integrating the medical department, mental health business division, mental health research institute, national trauma center, and mental health education department. Director Kwak Young-sook noted, "We will take the lead in promoting national mental health by enhancing emergency mental health services, services for mental health recovery and social reintegration, strengthening the national disaster mental health response system, and expanding mental health research projects".

    Hyundai ADM Bio announced on the 5th that it will begin clinical phase 3 trials for the niclosamide-based cancer drug 'CSC-X,' aimed at dogs. This research will be conducted in collaboration with Culph, a specialized company in animal clinical trials. CSC-X is the world's first new drug targeting cancer stem cells (CSCs) that cannot be eliminated by existing cancer treatments. It is attracting attention as a treatment that prevents cancer recurrence and metastasis, and prevents resistance to chemotherapy. The company aims to secure clinical evidence as a human cancer drug through this research.

    Hallym University Medical Center announced on the 5th that it has entered into an agreement with Konan Technology, an AI software specialist, to collaborate on the development of an AI-based comprehensive record system for hospitalized patients and a knowledge consultation platform. The two organizations plan to create an integrated AI platform by July, combining Hallym University's smart hospital system and its five affiliated hospitals with Konan Technology's generative AI capabilities. Hallym University Medical Center anticipates that the platform will automatically generate patient medical records and provide 24/7 access to search and consult hospital guidelines, regulations, and standards through interactive queries.

    Dong-A Pharmaceutical announced on the 5th that its trouble care specialized brand Patheon has entered the health and beauty (H&B) store 'Guardian' in Malaysia and Singapore. To meet the local consumer demand for addressing skin troubles due to the hot and humid climate, Dong-A Pharmaceutical has introduced the Northskinine line, specialized in soothing troubled skin. Patheon will be sold in 150 Guardian stores in Malaysia and 20 stores in Singapore, and will also be available in China, Japan, and Vietnam.

    CHA Biotech announced on the 5th that its umbilical cord blood bank, 'iCord,' will participate in the 47th BeFe Baby Fair, taking place from the 6th to the 9th at Coex in Samseong-dong, Seoul. The company plans to showcase its umbilical cord blood storage technology and safety at its consultation booth, aiming to educate expecting parents about the latest advancements and the significance of cord blood storage through expert advice.
