Medtronic Vietnam and the University Medical Center Ho Chi Minh City (UMC HCMC) have signed their fourth Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance healthcare training and education in Vietnam. The partnership will support 23 programs across various specialties, including cardiovascular, neuroscience, and medical surgery.
Through this partnership, UMC HCMC is reinforcing its vision to adopt and integrate innovative therapies into patient care. Notable achievements include Vietnam's first successful treatment of an epilepsy patient using Deep Brain Stimulation and the implementation of training programs—both local and international—for leadless pacemaker therapy.
Comprehensive Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs are also part of this collaboration, helping surgeons adopt advanced procedures in minimally invasive surgeries (MIS) more efficiently. These programs focus on improving surgical outcomes in spine, hernia, thoracic and gastrointestinal surgeries.
Medtronic is also collaborating with UMC to certify the hospital as the second solo proctor for the TAVI (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation) procedure in Vietnam.
In addition to CME initiatives, Medtronic is helping the hospital improve stroke and aortic stenosis management through patient awareness programs, marking a significant advancement in Vietnam's healthcare development.
Paul Verhulst, Vice President of Medtronic Southeast Asia, emphasized the collaboration's impact: "This MoU builds on a longstanding partnership dedicated to advancing healthcare across multiple dimensions. As this collaboration evolves, it is set to bring transformative changes, positively impacting patients, communities, and healthcare professionals in Vietnam".
Associate Professor Nguyen Hoang Bac, Director of UMC HCMC, highlighted the importance of the partnership: "Medtronic Vietnam has accompanied our hospital in implementing many meaningful activities. We believe that this partnership will result in in-depth training and education programs and connection with international experts, thereby improving treatment outcomes and realising the hospital's goal of building a training center of excellence with many specialized departments".
