In 2024, Japan announces scholarships for experienced Pakistani teachers

  • The MEXT Teachers Training Scholarship 2024 has been announced by the Japanese embassy for primary and secondary school educators in Pakistan with at least five years of experience in either public or private institutions. According to the eligibility criteria, teachers who are 35 years old or younger are qualified to apply for the scholarship. The scholarship entails an 18-month non-degree training course, and successful recipients will receive a certificate upon completing the required program at a Japanese university. It's important to note that this training program is not intended for individuals seeking admission to Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral degree courses. The primary aim of this course is to offer Pakistani teachers the opportunity to research school education in Japan and acquire new methodologies and teaching techniques from Japanese experts, contributing to their professional development.

Applications must be submitted by February 9, 2024, for the Japanese Government MEXT Scholarship program. Annually, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology (MEXT) of Japan provides scholarships to international teachers interested in researching school education at designated educational institutions in Japan as teacher training students. In the previous year, the Japanese embassy introduced the MEXT Research Scholarship 2024 for Master's and PhD students.

Pakistan's education system is typically categorized into six levels: preschool (ages 3 to 5), primary (grades one to five), middle (grades six to eight), secondary (grades nine and ten, culminating in the Secondary School Certificate or SSC), intermediate (grades eleven and twelve, resulting in a Higher Secondary School Certificate or HSSC), and university programs that lead to undergraduate and graduate degrees. The oversight of all universities and degree-awarding institutes falls under the jurisdiction of the Higher Education Commission, which was established in 2002, with Atta-ur-Rahman serving as its founding chairman.
