  • The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur and the Indian Institute of Skills (IIS) have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) wherein IIT Kanpur will serve as the mentor for IIS over the next five years. The MoU was signed in the presence of Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, who holds the positions of Minister of Education and Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.

Under the terms of the MoU, IIT Kanpur will mentor the development of laboratory infrastructure at IIS Kanpur, create a suitable course curriculum based on the laboratory system, provide joint certificate and diploma courses approved by both institutes (IITK and IIS), and establish the Center for Deep-Skill Training and Research (CDSTAR) at IIT Kanpur to complement training at IIS Kanpur.

Furthermore, to enrich experiential learning and foster a blend of Skill and Knowledge among IIS and IITK students, CDSTAR at IIT Kanpur will host at least six Deep-skill laboratories. These include the Noise and Vibration Lab (NVH), Advanced Control Systems Lab (ACSL), Advanced Robotics Lab (ARL), Semiconductor Packaging Lab (SPL), Medical Imaging Lab (MIL), and Drug and Pharma Lab (DPL).

Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister of Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, commented, "This collaboration involving IIT Kanpur, Indian Institute of Skills Kanpur, HAL India, and Dassault Aircraft Services India signifies a significant step in shaping the future of skill development and empowering India’s youth. It marks the first-time convergence of educational institutes, skilling institutions, and industry to coordinate efforts to certify and future-proof youth".
