IIHS inaugurates nurse training centre with U.S. DFC support

  • The International Institute of Health Sciences (IIHS), known for its excellence in healthcare education in South Asia, is thrilled to declare the opening of the IIHS Multiversity a state-of-the-art nurse training center operating at international standards and sustainability. This significant accomplishment has been facilitated by a pioneering financial collaboration with the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), the development finance institution of the United States.

DFC collaborates with private entities to fund solutions for the most pressing challenges in today's developing world. With a track record spanning over two decades, IIHS has been a leader in nursing education in Sri Lanka, establishing partnerships with global institutions like Coventry University and Britain’s National Health Service. Graduates from IIHS have achieved remarkable careers in Sri Lanka, South Asia, and globally. The substantial investments in constructing the IIHS Multiversity underscore IIHS’ steadfast dedication to advancing modern medical knowledge, patient care, and sustainable educational approaches.

U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka Julie Chung emphasized the importance of new U.S. government investments in healthcare education for Sri Lanka's healthcare sector. This collaborative healthcare initiative highlights the United States' commitment to nurturing the next generation of healthcare professionals and showcasing how U.S. financing can foster local businesses, economic growth, employment, and prosperity within Sri Lanka.

IIHS CEO Dr. Kithsiri Edirisinghe expressed delight in inaugurating Sri Lanka's sustainable international learning center, acknowledging DFC's support. He emphasized that the cutting-edge, sustainable facility signifies their commitment to healthcare education and environmental responsibility. Through the DFC partnership, they've achieved their goal of creating an innovative and sustainable learning environment that will significantly influence education's future across South Asia.

DFC's Office of Development Credit Vice President James Polan conveyed satisfaction in supporting the IIHS Multiversity. He noted that DFC's investment will aid in developing a new campus, expanding the capacity to train students pursuing careers in nursing and other healthcare-related fields of study. This initiative reflects DFC's dedication to increasing the number of professional healthcare providers in South Asia.
