IIHS Collaborates with University of Surrey to Redefine Healthcare Education

  • International Institute of Health Sciences (IIHS), renowned healthcare educationists for the last 23+ years, is collaborating with University of Surrey, UK, for redefining healthcare education in Sri Lanka as well as across the larger South Asian community.

This collaboration seeks to develop an excellence-oriented academic program for future nursing and healthcare leaders, delivering internationally accredited qualifications from within Sri Lanka. The opportunity to spend some of the period of study at IIHS, then moving to the University of Surrey to undertake the last year, is possible by merging curricula in Sri Lanka and UK to match the needs of international healthcare standards.

IIHS, which has already educated more than 3,500 government nurses and enabled the academic development of 2,000 students, is still strengthening its leadership as a regional healthcare education powerhouse. The partnership will bring forward-thinking academic programmes, making higher-quality healthcare programs more accessible and equipping graduates for global prospects.

Dr. Kithsiri Edirisinghe, CEO and Dean of Undergraduate Studies at IIHS, emphasized the importance of the agreement: "This MOU is a landmark moment in our vision to provide world-class healthcare education. IIHS continues to be dedicated to grooming future healthcare leaders and building global healthcare leadership".

Dr. Shelini Surendran, University of Surrey Associate Dean (International), further noted: "Sri Lanka is becoming an education hub in the region, and this collaboration guarantees that students in Asia have access to top UK healthcare education. By combining academic distinction with affordability, we enable students to fulfill their professional dreams".

The program is anticipated to further establish Sri Lanka as a hub of excellence in healthcare education, drawing in foreign students, stimulating the education industry and economy, solving the global shortage of nurses, and raising the country's academic reputation through research and cross-border engagement.

This strategic partnership is set to leave long-term impact, equipping students with internationally competitive skills and supporting the future of healthcare in the region.
