Harrow International School Wins Gold Award at the 2023: Hong Kong

  • The Hang Lung Mathematics Awards "HLMA" for 2023, jointly organized by Hang Lung Properties Limited "Hang Lung Properties" and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology "HKUST", announced the winners. Kyan Ka Hin Cheung and Ethan Jon Yi Soh, students from Harrow International School Hong Kong, secured the Gold Award for their research report titled "On the Properties of the Semigroup Generated by the RL Fractional Integral". Chun Hei Mok and Hei Wong from S.K.H. Tsang Shiu Tim Secondary School, along with Hei Tung Tam from HKUGA College, were honored with the Silver Award and the Bronze Award, respectively. These students showcased outstanding problem-solving skills and creativity in addressing intricate mathematical challenges.

    Dr. Christine Choi, Secretary for Education of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and Professor Richard Schoen, the 2017 Wolf Prize Laureate in Mathematics and Chair of the 2023 HLMA Scientific Committee, were present with the Gold Award winners of the 2023 Hang Lung Mathematics Awards, Kyan Ka Hin Cheung and Ethan Jon Yi Soh from Harrow International School Hong Kong. The title of their research is "On the Properties of the Semigroup Generated by the RL Fractional Integral".

    The awards ceremony for the winners, with The Hon John KC LEE, The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, delivering opening remarks virtually. This event also marked the commencement of a series of celebrations recognizing the significant 20-year legacy of HLMA and its notable contributions to the advancement of STEAM education in Hong Kong. A substantial aspect of this legacy is evident in the consistently high academic standards displayed by HLMA winners in terms of methodology, research, and scholarship. The 2023 Hang Lung Mathematics Awards witnessed the involvement of over 70 teams from nearly 50 secondary schools in Hong Kong. Each team, guided by a teacher, selected a mathematics topic, conducted research, and submitted a research report.
