Gullas College of Medicine Hosts Indo-Philippines Cultural Education Summit

  • The Indo-Philippines Cultural Education Exchange Summit was recently held at Gullas College of Medicine (GCMI) to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Philippines-India diplomatic relations. The event took place at the GCMI Auditorium, located on Gov. M. Cuenco Ave., Banilad, Mandaue City, Philippines. With the theme ‘A Union Fostering Global Connections: Integrating Education, Healthcare, Culture, and Tourism for a Sustainable Future’, the summit brought together leaders and experts from various fields to explore how collaboration between the two nations can enhance education, healthcare, culture, and tourism, ultimately paving the way for a more sustainable future.

The summit was honored by the presence of distinguished guests, including Honourable Excellency Harsh Kumar Jain, Ambassador of India to the Philippines, and former Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Other notable dignitaries in attendance included ambassadors from Nigeria and Thailand, as well as former Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Chairperson Eleanor B. Almoro.

H.E. Harsh Kumar Jain highlighted the strong foundation of Indo-Philippines relations, stating, "The Indo-Philippines relationship is founded on mutual respect, common values, and shared vision of progress". He emphasized that initiatives like the Indo-Philippines Cultural Education Exchange Summit play a key role in strengthening cooperation in education, healthcare, and culture, marking 75 years of diplomatic ties. The unveiling of the Thiruvalluvar statue at Gullas Medical College, he noted, is a powerful symbol of the shared respect for wisdom and knowledge between the two nations.

The summit also featured the unveiling of the Thiruvalluvar Statue, a tribute to the renowned Tamil poet and philosopher. Cultural performances by the Lanhing Batangan Dance Troupe and Sakhyam Dance Academy added a vibrant touch to the event. Ambassador Harsh Kumar Jain underscored the importance of mutual respect, shared values, and a common vision in advancing Indo-Philippines relations.

Gullas College of Medicine Chief Executive Consultant Dr. David K. Pillai echoed similar sentiments, highlighting recent legislative reforms in the Philippines that allow students from any country to practice medicine. He noted, "The recent Senate-tabled reforms that permit students from any nation to practise medicine in the Philippines mark a significant milestone, particularly for Indian medical aspirants, as the Philippines has established itself as a top destination for students seeking top-notch medical education. I have no doubt that this would give talented Indian students new opportunities, enhancing academic relationships and setting the stage for future success in medical education".

Mr. Kadwin Pillai, CEO of Transworld Educare Pvt Ltd and Kings International Ltd, also praised the growing trend, stating, "We are grateful that the Philippines offers prospective Indian students top-notch medical education. Due to the Philippines' excellent academic standards and student-friendly laws, the number of Indian students selecting the country over other nations for medical study has increased by 25% in recent years".
