Harmonic Bionics has announced the successful delivery and installation of their inaugural Harmony SHR exoskeleton in Hong Kong. This milestone, realized through their partnership with distributor Healthlink Holdings, represents the company's first international placement and a significant entry into the Hong Kong market. The exoskeleton is now operational at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Medical Centre, where it will be integrated into the hospital's rehabilitation program.
The Harmony SHR exoskeleton, designed for bilateral upper extremity rehabilitation, features a shoulder mechanism that mimics natural biomechanics, facilitating a broader range of motion for patients recovering from neurological or musculoskeletal conditions. Its commercial launch last April was followed by the initial installation at a leading neurological hospital in Phoenix, marking the product's introduction to the United States.
Among the first beneficiaries of the Harmony SHR at CUHK Medical Centre is a prominent dancer who sustained a spinal cord injury during a stage performance two years ago. Under the supervision of Professor Herman Lau, Director of Allied Health Services at CUHK Medical Centre and former Hospital Chief Executive of Shatin Hospital, patients like the dancer are experiencing the benefits of this innovative robotic rehabilitation device.
Professor Herman Lau expressed pride in CUHK Medical Centre's acquisition of the Harmony SHR, emphasizing its unique design tailored for upper body rehabilitation. Patients using the Harmony system have demonstrated remarkable motivation and progress, yielding promising outcomes within a relatively short timeframe.
Mark Hunter, CEO of Harmonic Bionics, views this installation as a significant milestone for the company's expansion efforts, particularly in the Asian market. He believes that the successful deployment of Harmony SHR at CUHK Medical Centre sets a solid foundation for future growth opportunities in the region.
