The Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) has forged a strategic alliance with Acxyn Sdn Bhd, a notable figure in Web3 gaming technology. This collaboration aims to elevate the quality of game development education, equipping students with the essential knowledge and expertise required to excel in the ever-evolving realm of Web3 gaming. As part of this partnership, Acxyn conducted a workshop on game design titled ‘Monetisation Using Web3 for Game Creators’ on November 7th at APU’s campus. The workshop offered students valuable insights into the monetization opportunities presented by Web3 in contrast to the current Web2 framework. This initiative significantly enriched students' comprehension of Web3 technologies, incorporating real-world applications shared by Acxyn and their Game Studio Partner, Quurk.
Associate Professor Dr. Tan Chin Ike, Head of APU’s School of Computing, highlighted the progression of game development from basic 2-bit monochrome graphics to the current era of immersive, lifelike visuals and open-world sandbox gameplay. Dr. Tan emphasized that advancements in hardware, software game engines, and tools have been the driving force behind this evolution. He particularly pointed out the promising potential of Web3, which includes the concept of true ownership of in-game assets and the opportunity for players to earn real-world value through these in-game resources.
John Schneider, CEO of Acxyn, stressed the crucial role of education within the Web3 gaming landscape, stating, "We are enthusiastic about our close collaboration with APU in this transformative journey. The gaming industry is swiftly evolving, and it's imperative to equip the next generation of game developers with the necessary knowledge and skills for success". Schneider highlighted that this partnership exemplifies their commitment to providing opportunities essential for thriving in game development. The 'Monetisation in Web3' workshop serves as an initial step in what they envision as a long and fruitful partnership. Both parties expressed their dedication to preparing students for evolving careers by integrating technology-focused degree programs with practical game development skills and incorporating Web3 gaming education into the curriculum. This integration emphasizes blockchain technology, NFTs, and decentralized ecosystems within the gaming industry.
