UGC implements Institutional Development Plan Proposals for Higher Education Institutions

  • The proposed Institutional Development Plan (IDP) guidelines have been authorized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) during its last session. As higher education advances rapidly and costs for the public and private sectors rise, there has been a rise in standards and quality on an international level. According to GCS, higher education institutions in India will additionally require to exhibit that they elevate excellence to a far higher standard and put in place the procedures for achieving, proving, and guaranteeing that sustainable quality.

A comprehensive and integrated response must be given to the demands and difficulties that are arising both inside and outside of India due to this embarking and the internalization of higher education. According to the National Educational Policy 2020, quality higher education has to strive to nurture morally upright, considerate, all-around, and innovative people. In addition to fostering strong character, ethical and constitutional values, intellectual curiosity, scientific temper, creativity, the spirit of service, and 21st-century skills across an array of disciplines, including sciences, social sciences, arts, humanities, languages, as well as professional, technical, and vocational subjects, an individual needs to be inspired to delve into one or more specialized fields of interest at an advanced level.

To advance the objectives stated in the NEP 2020, the UGC has created recommendations for individual HEIs to build their private institutional development plans. According to UGC, the IDP has to show an integrated strategy that takes into consideration the institution's vision and goal along with its context, life cycle stage, location, and character.
