UAP Hosts a Lecture on Business Higher Education for the Next Generation

  • The Office of International Affairs (OIA) of the University of Asia Pacific (UAP) hosted a public lecture titled "Higher Education in Business for the Next Generation: Opportunities and Challenges". Dr. M Kabir Hassan, a finance professor at the University of New Orleans in the United States and a member of UAP's International Advisory Council, delivered the public lecture. According to Prof Hassan is a well-known financial economist with consulting, research, and teaching experience in development finance, money, and capital markets, Islamic finance, corporate finance, investments, monetary economics, macroeconomics, and international trade and finance. 

    He has advised the World Bank (WB), International Monetary Fund (IMF), Islamic Development Bank (IDB), African Development Bank (AfDB), USAID, the government of Bangladesh, the Organization of Islamic Conferences (OIC), the Federal Reserve Bank of the United States, and numerous corporations, private organizations, and universities around the world, according to the statement. He is known as the "Islamic Financial Economist", and he is the most cited researcher in the field of Islamic finance, according to the publication. Prof Hassan has been named the 2016 IDB Prize winner in Islamic banking and finance. He also received the 2019 University of Louisiana System Outstanding Faculty Member Award, the 2019 University of New Orleans Research, Creativity, and Scholarly Career Award, and the 2018 UNO Gordon H "Nick" Mueller International Leadership Medallion.

    Prof Hassan's speech shed light on Bangladesh's new-age prospects and challenges in higher education. In the first part of his lecture, he also focused on the updated teaching and learning patterns available in the United States. The second part of his lecture, he discussed the practicality and impact of publishing research work, as well as the application of research-led findings and knowledge in real life. It was also stated that near the end of his lecture, Prof Hassan encouraged students to pursue higher education and research while sharing the journey of his eventful life. Ismat Zarin, acting director, of the Office of International Affairs (OIA), and assistant professor, Department of English, University of Asia Pacific, assembled and launched the program (UAP). The session began with an introduction to the event's eminent speaker, Professor Dr M Kabir Hassan. The public lecture was followed by a Q&A session at the end of the seminar, during which a number of faculty members and students asked pertinent questions to the distinguished speaker. At the conclusion of the event, Professor Dr. Qumrul Ahsan, vice chancellor of the University of Asia Pacific (UAP).
