Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister for Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, launched the "Malaviya Mission" - a teachers training program run by the University Grants Commission (UGC) - at Kaushal Bhawan in New Delhi. He also opened the program's webpage and distributed its information pamphlet. The Malaviya Mission teacher training program, organized by UGC in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, intends to provide targeted training and capacity development programs for faculty members in higher educational institutions. Dharmendra Pradhan, who launched the initiative, emphasized the need to increase education quality at all levels by instilling quality and excellence in instructors and teaching techniques. He also stated that Human Resource Development Centres (HRDCs) will be renamed Madan Mohan Malaviya Teachers' Training Center. He noted that this initiative will enable ongoing professional development and assist in the capacity building of 15 lakh HEI instructors through 111 Malaviya Mission centers throughout India in a timely way.
He went on to say that the initiative is an effort to prepare educators for the future by giving them a better grasp of Indian principles. He noted that it intends to increase the quality of teacher training, develop teachers' leadership abilities, and aid in the achievement of NEP goals. K. Sanjay Murthy, Secretary, Higher Education, Ministry of Education, elaborated on the three main themes that were discussed during India's G20 presidency: the use of technology in education, achieving sustainable development goals, and women-led development, all of which will be incorporated into teacher training programs. He praised the UGC for carefully developing the programs that will aid in the empowerment of the country's educators. Prof. M. Jagadesh Kumar, Chairperson of the UGC, emphasized the importance of teachers in the overall development of students. He stated that the teacher training program will aid in developing new teaching techniques and high-level institutional facilities in all higher education sectors.
The two-week online program will center on several themes identified for course curriculum/content for faculty capacity building in higher education institutions. Holistic and Multidisciplinary Education, Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS), Academic Leadership, Governance and Management, Higher Education and Society, R&D, Skill Development, Student Diversity and Inclusive Education, and Information and Communication Technologies are among the eight topics. The UGC has also built a dedicated site for faculty members to enroll in capacity-building programs in order to aid this transformative journey.
