The Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport is encouraging girls aged 8-18 to participate in the 'Technovation Cambodia 2024' competition. This initiative aims to promote the integration of information technology in Cambodia while boosting the number of girls equipped with computer skills. The program specifically motivates girls to pursue careers as programmers and innovators, leveraging technology to address community challenges. Through this international technology competition, the focus is on showcasing the accomplishments of girls by demonstrating innovation in information technology. The competition invites girls and young women in primary to high school to showcase their coding skills by creating a mobile app that addresses community issues.
To enroll in the ongoing initiative, which commenced last month, interested participants can join a twelve-week online training course running from January to April. This course covers various aspects, including coding, mobile app development, entrepreneurship, ideation, pitching, and artificial intelligence (AI). Following the training, girls must submit a mobile application, formulate an entrepreneurship plan, and produce a short video for Technovation Global's website, participating in the national competition. Successful candidates will then advance to the international competition. Kann Puthy, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, highlighted that the Ministry has been supporting the 'Technovation Cambodia' program since 2014, initiated under USAID. Puthy affirmed the Ministry's commitment to expanding support for this program annually, urging schools and parents to collaborate in encouraging girls' participation.
Technovation Girls is an international initiative that facilitates the connection between girls and mentors through local Chapters and Clubs. These Chapters and Clubs serve as platforms for students to collaborate while participating in the program. Chapters, overseen by Chapter Ambassadors, offer support to seven or more teams at various locations such as schools or community centres. On the other hand, Clubs, managed by Club Ambassadors, provide assistance to 2-5 teams in their collaborative efforts.
