The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) wants to forge more international linkages. This came as TESDA recently completed a series of international activities in China, Germany, and Canada as part of the commitment towards promoting Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET). This past month, TESDA attended the 2025 Philippine Nuclear Energy Mission to Canada to visit and learn about Canada's wide experience in nuclear technology and potentially tap opportunities for the country within Canada's nuclear sector.
"Let us prepare ourselves with the human resources to be able to support the nuclear power plant", TESDA Secretary Francisco Benitez was said to have spoken in a press release.
A TESDA delegation last month also went to the Quanzhou Vocational and Technical University, Yalong Intelligent Equipment Group, Zhejian Future Construction Center, and Zhejiang College of Education to confer with Chinese counterparts on industry-driven curriculum development, dual training systems, digital platforms for skill training, and national qualification frameworks.
Between March 25 and April 2, officials of TESDA joined the Hannover Messe 2025, which is an annual technology exhibition in Hannover, Germany. TESDA claimed the learnings from this effort will aid it in preparing for the 14th WorldSkills ASEAN Competition in August 2025.
"As we reaffirm TVET's position in the Philippines, our international collaborations are important to making our training programs relevant, responsive, and future-proofed," Benitez stated.
TESDA's Public Information and Assistance Division (PIAD) informed the Philippine News Agency that they have a continuing collaboration on vocational education and training (VET) with Hungary's Ministry for Innovation and Technology.
Cooperation areas are VET systems, challenges and best practices; development of competency standards, assessment and certification in VET; R&D in VET; dual VET programs, enhancing businesses participation in VET; mobility programs in VET; human resources development programs in VET; enhancing the attractiveness of VET; and joint implementation of collaborative projects.
TESDA has just signed a memorandum of agreement with the Kingdom of Cambodia's Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training.
Their partnership will encompass conducting joint conferences, symposia, workshops and exhibitions for trainees, employees, trainers, and TVET institute administrators; undertaking joint researches and technical studies that would assist in improving TVET; offering joint training programs for employees, trainers, and TVET institute managers; professional exchanges in technical fields to enable implementation of the training programs, carry out studies and consultations; exchanging of professionals; exchanging and disseminating researches, studies, and other related information materials; offering assistance to trainees and trainers in the form of scholarships/fellowships as per available opportunities; and promoting exchange of technology programs between private enterprises and TVET institutes including all the necessary assistance for the implementation of the said technical programs.
"We also have ongoing partnerships with multinational companies such as FESTO, Siemens, Yalong, and Doosan, among others, most of which involve equipment lease and sharing of expertise. This is for the upcoming conduct of WorldSkills ASEAN Manila 2025", the PIAD stateed.
