Sunway University hosts THE Asia Universities Summit

  • Malaysia has solidified its position as a premier global educational destination, marking a significant milestone with the inaugural Times Higher Education (THE) Asia Universities Summit held at Sunway University. This summit underscored Malaysia's burgeoning reputation as a vibrant education hub renowned for academic excellence and innovation throughout the region.

    Drawing participation from over 600 esteemed global educational leaders, delegates, and academics representing prominent universities such as The Chinese University of Hong Kong, National University of Singapore, Monash University, and more, the event signaled Malaysia's growing influence in the academic sphere. Renowned chef Gordon Ramsay added prestige by welcoming delegates to the summit. 

    Under the theme "Bridging Frontiers to Redefine the Evolving Educational Landscape in Asia," the summit addressed the imperative for universities to adapt their curricula to meet the evolving demands of globalized economies and employment landscapes. Malaysian Minister of Higher Education, YB Dato' Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir, emphasized the government's commitment to student development and universities' pivotal roles.

    The summit facilitated extensive knowledge exchange through 35 academic sessions, highlighting the importance of equipping graduates with practical skills aligned with industry needs to enhance their employability and contribute to economic growth and societal progress.

    The event culminated in a grand gala dinner hosting THE Awards Asia 2024 winners' ceremony at Sunway Resort Hotel, graced by KDYMM Seri Paduka Baginda Raja Permaisuri Agong Raja Zarith Sofiah. This ceremony celebrated outstanding institutional achievements and recognized excellence across Asia's higher education landscape, further solidifying Malaysia's position as a leading educational hub.
