Singapore will Treble the Amount of Scholarships Available to Vietnamese Students

  • Singapore's education ministry intends to treble the amount of scholarships available to outstanding Vietnamese students, according to the Ministry of Education and Training's International Cooperation Department. Nguyen Kim Son, Minister of Education and Training, and his Singaporean colleague Chun Chun Sing signed a pact on education collaboration on Monday, under which both nations would strengthen school cooperation to encourage student and teacher interchange. Both nations would also give possibilities for students to engage in internship programs, as well as opportunities for knowledge exchange and teacher development. Scholarships would be available through the education ministries of both nations.

The agreement was inked during Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong's three-day official visit to Vietnam, which concluded. During a June meeting of the two countries' education ministries, Singapore announced an increase in the number of scholarships available to outstanding Vietnamese secondary and high school students. According to the International Cooperation Department, the amount of scholarships offered this year might be double that of prior years. Scholarships offered by Singapore's Ministry of Education (the ASEAN scholarship) are reserved for students in grades 8th through 10th, and applications are typically accepted in February. Those who get the scholarship attend two years of school and two years of college preparation studies in Singaporean government-approved schools. Scholarships include yearly living expenses, housing, and tuition, among other benefits.
