Sharjah Private Education Authority Unveils 'Itqan' Programme Results

  • The Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA) has released the results for the second edition of the "Itqan" programme for the 2023-2024 academic year. This initiative is designed to enhance the quality of education in private schools across the Emirate, aligning with the authority's vision. Evaluations were conducted for 63 private schools, which follow 9 different curricula, out of a total of 129 private schools in the Emirate, encompassing 78,638 students.

In its first and second editions for the academic years 2022-2023 and 2023-2024, the results of the programme showed a qualitative and noticeable improvement in the performance of schools by up to 80 per cent compared to the previous evaluation results conducted in the years 2018 and 2019. The results proved that 100 percent of private schools in the Emirate provide "acceptable" or better education, and 68 percent of schools provide "good" or better education, which means that 117 schools in the Emirate offer "acceptable" or better education, of which 79 schools offer "good" or better education.

The programme outcomes revealed that approximately 145,042 students, representing 76% of the private school population in the Emirate, are receiving a "good" or better education. Additionally, all students in the evaluated schools, totaling around 189,592, are receiving an "acceptable" or better education. This announcement follows a thorough review of the performance quality in 63 out of the 129 private schools in the Emirate, which collectively educate 78,638 students.

This edition concentrated on schools that had not been reviewed previously, as well as those that received an "acceptable" rating or lower in the first edition of the "Itqan" programme in 2023. The goal was to improve school quality standards and promote exemplary educational practices in line with the authority's vision of achieving "distinguished education" by 2025. The programme was conducted throughout the current academic year, from January to March.

Muhadditha Al Hashimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA), expressed pride in the results of the "Itqan" programme and the ongoing development observed in Sharjah's private schools. She highlighted the support and guidance of Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, whose visionary leadership and continuous directives have been the driving force behind these successes.

She stated that the achievements reflect the authority's strategic vision and plan to enhance the quality of education and develop its tools in Sharjah's private schools. She emphasized that the journey to excellence requires collaborative efforts from all stakeholders, including the authority's teams, school administrations, and parents. She expressed deep gratitude to everyone who contributed to this success, which has led to noticeable improvements in the quality of education, as evidenced by the evaluation results for the current year compared to the previous two editions.

She added that SPEA will continue to bolster development efforts and provide comprehensive support to the educational sector. She praised schools' fruitful efforts and their cooperation with evaluation teams to enhance performance across various evaluation standards. She emphasized the commitment to ongoing efforts to achieve even greater accomplishments.
