Professor Sameer Otoom, the President of RCSI Medical University Bahrain, warmly received His Excellency Bob L.J. Chen, Representative of the Taipei Trade Office in Bahrain, accompanied by Vice Consul Ms. Shadin Lu. During their visit, Professor Kathryn Strachan, Head of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, led discussions and offered a detailed overview of the School's global and local engagement efforts.
The visit facilitated conversations on shared interests, potential partnerships, and avenues for collaboration with universities in Taipei, Taiwan. RCSI Medical University Bahrain is dedicated to nurturing relationships with esteemed institutions in Taiwan, including the National Taipei University for Nursing and Health Sciences and Taipei City Hospital.
Since 2010, RCSI students have had opportunities to visit Taiwan for youth camps, programs, and electives. In the summer of 2023, three senior medical students participated in a surgical observership program at Taipei City Hospital. They observed robotic surgeries in general and urology fields and engaged in discussions with local surgeons regarding the impact of robotic surgery on outcomes compared to laparoscopic procedures and the epidemiology of specific conditions.
Professor Otoom expressed gratitude for the support from His Excellency Bob L.J. Chen and emphasized the value of exchange programs in enhancing students' global knowledge and skills.
