Qatar University Advances in the 2024 QS World Rankings

  • Qatar University (QU) is consistently ranked highly in a number of major international rankings. The latest milestone that reflects QU's ongoing growth in all areas is its promotion in the QS World Rankings 2024, where it currently has a position of 173 and enters into the top 200, compared with 208 the previous year. It is important to note that this year, the QS World Rankings added three new indicators: sustainability, job opportunities, and a global research network. The QS World University Rankings by Category 2023 also highlight QU programs. In particular, the University excels in the fields of sports science and theology, divinity, and religion, taking the first position in the Arab area. The third position goes to Social Sciences and Management, Environmental Sciences, Accounting, and Finance. In addition, a number of QU disciplines were included among the ‘top 10 in the Arab World and among the top 50 and top 200’.

President of QU Dr. Omar Al Ansari stated, "We have made significant progress in the QS World Universities Rankings, ranked 173rd for this year, despite changes in ranking methodology. This is a great reflection of the success we have achieved and really illustrates QU's vast contributions and dedication to excellence. Internationally, QU has been making great strides and achievements in all fields, expanding its international impact, including research aspects and partnerships, and remaining committed to our mission of addressing relevant local and regional challenges and advancing knowledge”.

"In addition to this, many of QU's specializations show their leadership in their area, proving to be a testament to the world-class education offered by QU, and a motivation for both future students and faculty alike", Dr. Al Ansari further said. This accomplishment comes on following Times Higher Education's announcement that QU placed 28th in the 2023 Times Higher Education (THE) Asia Rankings, moving up 18 spots from the 2022 rankings and happily stepping into the top 30 universities in Asia. The ranking agency additionally announced that QU placed 24th globally and first in the MENA region on its ranking of the world's young universities, coming in at the top of the list.

The accomplishment attests to the University's international growth in addition to regional, global, and rating agencies' Times Higher Education's Phil Baty, the Chief Global Affairs Officer, applauded QU for "joining the top 25 of the world's leading ‘young’ universities those 50 years of age or younger". In contrast to rival institutions that possess many centuries of history behind them, he continued, Qatar University has achieved remarkable solid and consistent advancement up the prestigious THE World University Rankings in the past few years, joining the ranks of the world's top researchers.

"The rise up the rankings has primarily been driven by research excellence. The quality of QU's research, judged by an analysis of many tens of millions of citations to 15 million research papers worldwide, has been improving strongly. This is accompanied by a strong rise in the productivity and global reputation of QU's research, too. QU is a true national flagship institution and a credit to Qatar as a center of excellence for the nation, and I expect its strengthening position on the world stage will help it attract more talent and more success", he added. Recent achievements of QU comprise a comprehensive research agenda based on national development goals and a number of noteworthy discoveries with international impact. The several colleges and programs at QU that have received international accreditation attest to their high caliber and excellence.
