PolyU hosted the Annual Meeting and Presidents' Forum of the Jiangsu-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance (JHMUA), which convened 130 education officials and senior management from 38 member universities. The gathering, held on the PolyU campus, focused on discussions regarding the Alliance's progress and collaboration in areas such as talent development and research on innovative technologies.
In her opening statement, Ms. Liu Jin emphasized the potential for collaboration among tertiary institutions in Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao, highlighting the opportunity to leverage each other's strengths and share resources. The Ministry of Education actively encourages and supports these institutions in enhancing exchanges and building synergies. Ms. Liu Jin stressed the importance of university alliances, with JHMUA urged to focus on broader objectives, support national and regional development, and harness the strengths of each university to advance the development of high-level institutions in Jiangsu, Hong Kong, and Macao. Additionally, she emphasized the Alliance's role as a platform for facilitating exchanges between tertiary institutions, contributing to global governance, and fostering the next generation in these three regions.
PolyU President Prof. Jin-Guang Teng noted the pivotal role played by JHMUA since its establishment in 2021. The alliance has effectively brought together member institutions to capitalize on complementary strengths and promote cooperation. Through JHMUA, PolyU has strengthened collaborations with various municipal governments in Jiangsu Province, leading to the establishment of initiatives such as the PolyU-Wuxi Technology and Innovation Research Institute in partnership with the Wuxi Municipal Government. Additionally, a memorandum of understanding with the Nanjing Municipal Government paved the way for the PolyU-Nanjing Technology and Innovation Research Institute. These endeavors not only drive innovation and technology development in the Yangtze River Delta but also foster valuable industry-academia-research collaborations between universities and local governments.
