Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chinh, accompanied by his spouse and the Vietnamese delegation, paid a visit to the Technical University of Civil Engineering of Bucharest (UTCB). Addressing officials and educators at the university, the Prime Minister reflected on the nearly 75-year history of the Vietnam-Romania relationship. He emphasized Romania's support to Vietnam during the period of national liberation and subsequent national development. The Prime Minister also acknowledged Romania's active role in facilitating the negotiations and signing of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement and the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement. Prime Minister Chinh expressed gratitude, stating that Vietnam will always remember Romania's wholehearted assistance and close collaboration over the past nearly 75 years.
The Prime Minister affirmed Vietnam's deep appreciation for the longstanding friendship and strong cooperation with Romania, expressing a desire to strengthen bilateral ties, especially in the field of education and training. He highlighted Romania's significant contribution in training approximately 4,000 Vietnamese students, many of whom have gone on to become prominent scientists or hold high-ranking positions in the Vietnamese Party and State. The Prime Minister expressed optimism for Romania to provide more scholarships to Vietnam. Specifically, the Technical University of Civil Engineering of Bucharest (UTCB) played a crucial role in educating around 1,000 Vietnamese students during the period from 1970 to 1980. From 2008 onwards, five Vietnamese students have been recipients of scholarships under the bilateral agreement between the two governments for studying at the university.
Prime Minister Chinh expressed his wish for the Technical University of Civil Engineering of Bucharest (UTCB) to enhance collaboration in both training and research with Vietnamese counterparts, playing a role in strengthening the ties between Vietnam and Romania. While touring the university's laboratory and the international student dormitory, PM Chinh reminisced about the fond memories from his time studying and conducting research at the university, moments that he holds dear. He conveyed profound appreciation to the successive generations of teachers and extended his gratitude to friends who provided significant support and companionship during his academic journey at the university.
