Maharashtra has a majority of colleges and institutions that are NAAC-accredited in the nation, demonstrating the state's dedication to high-quality education, said by the representative of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council.

On Saturday, NAAC advisor Dr. Devender Kawday was interacting with PTI after attending an event in Thane.

The NAAC, an independent entity within the University Grants Commission (UGC), is in charge of evaluating and certifying institutions of higher learning in accordance with specified standards of excellence.

Karnataka comes in second with 1,028 accredited institutions, followed by Maharashtra with 1,957 NAAC accreditations, including 35 universities, he said. None of the other states are over 1,000, he said.

In the south a decent amount of educational institutions hold NAAC accreditations, he said.

As of May 19, a total of 9,687 establishments, including 9,257 colleges and 430 universities, have received the NAAC label in the first cycle. Out of them, 2,155 received an A, 6,370 a B, and 1,162 a C, he said.

Overall 240 universities and 4,235 colleges were accredited in the second cycle, and 118 institutions and 1,713 colleges were graded in the third, he said. 32 institutions and 295 colleges were present in the fourth. In the fifth cycle only saw the accreditation of one college, he said.

The NAAC will continue to rank institutions, and there will be periodic updates, and the colleges must work very hard to earn and keep their grade, he said.

India's economic growth is intimately tied to the development of the higher education system and that Maharashtra's large number of NAAC-accredited institutions and universities demonstrates the state's dedication to high-quality instruction, he said.
