For the third consecutive year, Indian students studying in the United States have set new records, as per the announcement by Eric Garcetti, the US Ambassador to India. He disclosed that the number of Indian students pursuing education in the United States has surpassed 268,000 during the academic year 2022-23, marking a continual increase. Garcetti made these remarks while participating in the 45th Anniversary celebration of The Humphrey Fellowship Programme.
Ambassador Garcetti highlighted the substantial impact of Indian students on the landscape of US education, mentioning that they now represent 25% of all international students in the country. Furthermore, he stressed that India has overtaken China as the largest source of international graduate students in the United States, marking a significant shift in educational demographics. "Indian students now comprise a quarter of all overseas students in the United States, and India has recently surpassed China as the primary source of international graduate students in the United States, marking this milestone for the first time in over a decade", added the US envoy.
Reflecting on the global situation, Garcetti emphasized the evolving relationship between the United States and India. Amidst prevailing global issues like divisions, conflicts, climate crises, and poverty, the US ambassador conveyed his belief that the partnership between the two nations transcends a simple addition. "In a time when the world faces divisions, conflicts, urgent climate challenges, and widespread poverty, I strongly believe that the alliance we are forging between the US and India goes beyond a mere sum of the two nations. Rather than being additive, it's multiplicative. It's exponential, offering more than the combined strength of two nations", Ambassador Garcetti remarked.
