Inaugural National Education Conference hosted by SLANSHEI

  • The Sri Lanka Association of Non-State Higher Education Institutes (SLANSHEI) hosted the National Higher Education Conference indicating the noteworthy contribution by TNE (Transnational Education) to Higher education at the Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo. SLANSHEI laid the foundations in 2016 through the initiative taken by top-level education institutes to address the needs and provide leadership to the private education sector in the country.

Its strategic plan pays attention to the aspects important to the non-state higher education sector such as expansion, improving the quality and standards, attracting foreign students, enhancing the research profile and research output, and promoting the process of making education international. British High Commissioner in Sri Lanka Andrew Patrick, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha, Director of British Council, Orlando Edwards, CEO, of Skills & Education Group Paul Eeles, Dr. Anita Hayes from Keele University, UGC Chairman Prof Sampath Amaratunge and President of SLANSHEI, Dr. Dayan Rajapakse attended the meeting.

The National Conference on Higher Education was a whole-day event, facilitating peer-to-peer exchange, networking and collaboration. The prime focus of the conference was to present the key contributions made by TNE to higher education in Sri Lanka, to bring together all shareholders of TNE education and scholars from TNE partner universities, Sri Lankan academics from both state and private sectors, and key personnel from quality assurance agencies in Sri Lanka to bring forth their views, experiences, and visions for the future of TNE and to encourage a robust and inclusive quality assurance. The conference consisted of presentations and panel discussions.
