IIT Mandi, South Korean Embassy Panel Talks Academic, Research Ties

  • The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mandi recently welcomed South Korean Ambassador Chang Jae-bok and a delegation from the Korean Embassy on April 23 and 24. Their visit aimed to foster collaboration between IIT Mandi and various higher education institutions (HEIs) in South Korea.  

    Ambassador Chang conveyed his optimism for the advancement of joint projects between the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and IIT Mandi during discussions with officials. He stressed the significance of enhancing science and technology cooperation between South Korea and India.

    Director Laxmidhar Behera highlighted the importance of building strong collaborative ties with leading universities and research organizations in South Korea. This partnership seeks to promote joint research initiatives, facilitate exchanges of students and faculty, and host workshops focusing on mutually beneficial priority areas.

    The Korean delegation was given a comprehensive tour of IIT Mandi's research facilities, including the Advanced Materials Research Center (AMRC), the Center for Design and Fabrication of Electronic Devices (C4DFED), and the Drone Lab at the Center for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (CAIR). This showcased IIT Mandi's cutting-edge research infrastructure, particularly in artificial intelligence, robotics, semiconductor devices, advanced materials, and human-computer interaction.

    Ambassador Chang delivered a keynote speech at an institute colloquium titled “India-Korea, 50 Years and Beyond,” where he explored the historical ties between the two nations, discussed the current status of bilateral relations, and outlined future opportunities for collaboration.

    Accompanying Ambassador Chang were Jung Jinhyeon, Science Attaché; Lee Chohee, First Secretary and Consul at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea; Woochan Chang, Country Director of KOICA; and Young Ho Kim, Director of the India Korea Center for Research and Innovation.
