MBRDI (Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) for a collaborative research venture. This partnership between industry and academia is a pivotal stride towards realizing Mercedes-Benz’s Ambition 2039 objective. This ambition targets achieving net carbon neutrality for the entire fleet of new vehicles, encompassing the entire value chain and the vehicles’ lifespan by 2039.
With the aim of 'addressing global challenges at a local level,' this agreement seeks to facilitate collaborative research, nurture talent, and foster innovative solutions in sustainable mobility. The partnership's primary focus involves driving a transformative shift in engineering and embarking on long-term research initiatives. Both entities intend to capitalize on their existing strengths, encompassing infrastructure and educational programs.
Furthermore, the comprehensive two-year agreement encompasses the exchange of information, educational materials, scientific publications, pursuit of joint funding opportunities for paper publications, development, and protection of intellectual property, as well as supporting research endeavors. Prof. Govindan Rangarajan, Director of the Indian Institute of Science, expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Mercedes-Benz Research and Development India in the realm of sustainable mobility and electric vehicles. He highlighted that research and innovation in this domain not only enhance energy independence but also create substantial economic prospects. Prof. Rangarajan reiterated the commitment to reinforcing industry-academia partnerships, emphasizing their potential significant impact in the future.
