IIM Rohtak: Focused on Future-Oriented Jobs, Affordable Education

  • Indian Institute of Management, Rohtak (IIM Rohtak) claims to provide a range of programs at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. These programs are the Integrated Programme in Management (IPM), which combines BBA and MBA, the Integrated Programme in Law, and a flagship Post program, or MBA. Institute also offers a Doctoral Program in Management, which is a full-time residential program. Interestingly, the institute claims to be unique in several aspects among the top management institutions in India. “ Firstly, every student here becomes proficient in a key analytical tool. Secondly, every student is required to write a case, ensuring practical problem-solving skills. We’ve also introduced a Rural Engagement Programme, Dheeraj P Sharma, director, IIM Rohtak, told FE Education. “We also emphasise on physical activity and well-being as part of our students’ daily routine. This balance between academics and personal development sets us apart”, he added.

Additionally, the institute  claims to provide short term or executive programmes and two long-duration executive programmes. These include a Post Graduate Diploma in Sports Management and a Post Graduate Diploma in Management for Executives. Moreover, it  claims to have more than 3,500 students enrolled in all the programmes annually. “Regarding the number of students currently enrolled, we have approximately 1,700 students in long-duration programmes. However, this figure doesn’t include short-term programmes or executive education programmes. For short-duration programmes, we see around 2,000 participants annually,” Sharma informed.

Moreover, the institute claims to have launched multiple initiatives for the holistic growth of its students at the campus. “For example, we have created a Buddy System, in which first-year students are paired with second-year buddies who assist them in various aspects of academic and extracurricular life. These steps create a holistic learning environment and help students become well-rounded individuals”, he  added.

When it comes to  placements,  the institute claims to provide  facilitation but doesn’t engage in any sort of direct placement.  This service is restricted  to the MBA programme. It claims that in the last academic year 237 students were placed from IIM Rohtak. “Last year, our MBA students achieved an average placement package of around 18 to 19 lakh, with a 100% placement rate. The highest package reached approximately Rs 30-32 lakh”, he said.

As management education is believed to  be one of the most expensive form of education , the institute claims to help students with a number of governmental and non-governmental scholarships.. “In terms of affordability, we make various scholarships available to our students. Around 20% of our students receive some form of scholarship, often based on their category or state-specific schemes. This helps balance the cost of education and makes it more accessible,” Sharma explained.  Furthermore, the institute claims to have inked  several partnerships with public and private sector banks to facilitate student loans.

With digital transformation beginning to play a key role, the institute claims to prepare its students for jobs of the future, through its courses. “Looking ahead, we aim to provide high-quality management education to more qualified individuals, expand industry connections, and attract top faculty worldwide. We eagerly await the QS rankings, aiming for a top 200 spot among global MBA programmes”, Sharma said.
