Higher education institutions must have complete basic information on their websites: UGC

  • These institutions have also been told by the UGC to periodically update  information on their websites. All higher education institutions in the nation are required by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to post all necessary information on their websites. Earlier, it was discovered that many of these institutions did not give parents and students access to all of their basic information.

The basic information that these institutions must now include on their websites includes the information and ranking of the institution, the course fee schedule and calendar, the hostel, fellowships, scholarships, and various programs. These institutions have also been told by the UGC to periodically update critical information on their websites.

According to a statement made by UGC Chairman M. Jagdish Kumar, "Everyone wants to know some basic information about universities and educational institutions, whether they are students, parents, researchers, government officials, alumni, or any other citizen. However, we have found that many university websites lack even the most basic information about the institution. The website frequently isn't functional or updated. All students and parents are experiencing inconvenience and difficulty as a result".

All national universities, including those that are central, state, deemed, and private, as well as the colleges that are affiliated with them, are now required to post a certain amount of basic information online. "This includes information about the institute and its ranking, syllabus, fees, calendar, hostel, fellowships, scholarships, and announcements", the notification said. Professor Mohan Surya, a senior education expert in the city, commented on the UGC's decision, saying, "It is really important for students to get basic information about any university or college. Additionally, it is frequently observed that colleges do not provide information accurately, so the UGC guidelines are appreciated".
