GCC Undersecretaries Gather to Assess Arab Education Bureau Rules

  • The Undersecretaries of Education from the GCC countries convened a special meeting in Doha to scrutinize the final draft of the internal regulations governing the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States (ABEGS) and its subsidiaries. The purpose was to ready these regulations for presentation to the eighth gathering of Education Ministers from the GCC nations, slated for June in Doha, seeking their approval. This follows a decision made during the seventh ministerial meeting held in Muscat in September 2023. During the meeting, the attendees deliberated on the proposed internal regulations for ABEGS and its subsidiaries, taking into account the feedback and suggestions from member states before finalizing and endorsing them.

Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, presided over the meeting. In his opening remarks as the current chair of the Undersecretaries’ Committee, Dr. Al Nuaimi underscored the significance of the extraordinary meeting, highlighting its role as a continuation of the collaborative efforts among the GCC Education Ministers, the GCC General Secretariat, and ABEGS. He emphasized that these efforts are aligned with the vision of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia to consolidate Gulf institutions under the GCC General Secretariat's purview, as well as with the recommendations put forth by relevant Education Ministers.

Khalid bin Ali bin Salem Al Sunaidi, the Assistant Secretary-General for Economic and Development Affairs of the GCC General Secretariat, also delivered remarks, expressing gratitude to Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the GCC leaders for their unwavering support and dedication to improving the educational landscape and enhancing the efficiency of the education system across GCC nations.
