First-ever Free Online Umpire Education Course Launched by ICC

  • The International Cricket Council (ICC) unveiled an innovative education program for its umpires titled the 'ICC Umpire Foundation Certificate' in the context of umpiring controversies from the recently finished Bangladesh-India women's ODI series, which has been in the news for the past few days. It serves as an initial program that is going to focus on the basic principles of umpiring to ensure that new officials may learn about the game prior to proceeding to official games at the league level. The education will be provided for free and can be accessed online. It occurs to be an aspect of the ICC education and training program, and later this year, additional programs are going to be introduced along with the ICC Coaching Program Level 2.

William Glenwright, general manager of development at the ICC, stated this new course, “The release of the ICC Umpire Foundation Certificate represents a landmark moment in the development of the sport. With better access to education courses than ever before, the ICC continues its commitment to improving the playing experience for participants around the world. This course complements the other resources we have launched over the last two years to drive a better standard of coaches, umpires, and curators in member nations”.

“By training a global workforce of Master Educators, we are able to ensure that every ICC Member has the tools necessary to train a local workforce so that they can deliver the different elements of the ICC Training and Education program as and when they need to”, he added.
