Facilitate Equitable Access to Education via Television: Sri Lanka

  • Aligned with the Ministry's vision for a technologically advanced education environment in Sri Lanka, the updated MOU emphasizes the incorporation of the eight Nenasa TV channels and the Nenasa Educational App into the Ministry's National Learning Content Management System, "e-Thaksalawa". This integration aims to establish a comprehensive smart education ecosystem, encompassing TV channels, a web-based LCMS, and an Education App compatible with mainstream operating systems. 'Dialog' has gone a step further by providing free access to the native content hosted on Nenasa, e-Thaksalawa, and the LEARN (Lanka Education And Research Network) online platforms through its network. The Nenasa Smart School program will play a crucial role in empowering proficient Digital Educators and promoting the creation of high-quality educational content at both national and school levels. Additionally, the MoU will support the VAAYU project, an IoT-based air quality monitoring initiative, with selected Nenasa Smart Schools serving as hubs for monitoring air quality.

This venture comprises eight TV channels tailored for students ranging from grades 1 to 13. The revised MoU not only encompasses these channels but also sets the groundwork for an all-encompassing ecosystem that involves educational apps and initiatives aimed at nurturing the growth of proficient digital educators. The integration of these platforms will establish a thorough smart education ecosystem, granting students access to top-notch educational content, irrespective of their geographical location or economic circumstances. We take pride in collaborating with the Ministry of Education to bring this vision into actualisation.

Dialog has dedicated an investment exceeding Rs. 600 million to the Nenasa TV initiative, underscoring its dedication to promoting inclusive and accessible education. More than 2,500 schools across the country have been equipped with television sets, complemented by a customized satellite television package from Dialog Television, ensuring complimentary access to the eight Nenasa TV channels. These channels deliver educational and edutainment content aligned with the local curriculum and are accessible at no charge to over 1.7 million Dialog Television subscribers. In addition to this, complementary initiatives such as the Nenasa Smart School and the Nenasa Educational App have been introduced, with a focus on enhancing the digital skills of educators and providing educational opportunities for disadvantaged children.
