Ethiopia praised the Chinese government for promoting the involvement of Ethiopian students with disabilities. This occurred during a special ceremony held to mark the completion of a multi-purpose school building financed by China for Deaf students in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, attended by senior Ethiopian government officials, Chinese diplomats in Ethiopia, representatives from international charitable organizations, and members of the school community. While giving a talk at the ceremony, Ethiopia's State Minister of Women and Social Affairs Huria Ali appreciated the Chinese government, companies and charitable organizations for their continued assistance in targeting vulnerable Ethiopians.
"In Ethiopia, the majority of people with disability are estimated to live in poverty and many of them depend on family support for their source of income. They often experience discrimination, disgrace and exclusion from education, health, employment and social protection," Ali quoted. The minister applauded the Chinese government's assistance in promoting the involvement of people with disabilities in basic services. She also said the latest support provided to Alpha School for the Deaf gives a demonstration of the Chinese government's allegiance to supporting the East African country in the mission to create a favourable environment for students with disabilities to excel in future", she quoted.
The school infrastructure is under construction and supported by Ngo to promote the rehabilitation and welfare of disabled ones. Zhang Haidi, president of Rehabilitation International, at the function, put the stress on the crucial role that the Alpha School is playing for the Deaf in terms of providing mandatory educational development for its students. "When I think about children in the Alpha School studying in capacious and bright classrooms and how their fate might be changed, I feel that our work is so crucial and meaningful, It is the seed we have sowed in Africa, someday the seed will grow into the most beautiful flower", zhang quoted.
