Education Partnership Between Vietnam and UK Grows Stronger

  • The second phase of BUV campus at Ecopark reaches an investment capital of $33 million across 16,300 square meters of space. The educational facility provides a student center together with more than 100 teaching spaces and various operational areas. The first phase with $52 million investment received a 5-star Global QS Stars University Rating and serves the population of 5,500 Vietnamese and international students.

The second phase of BUV campus received international recognition at its inaugural event through receipt of the EDGE (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) Advanced Certification that was granted by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) from the World Bank Group.

The establishment stands as the initial university in Vietnam to achieve this certification while striving to pioneer carbon emission elimination from its operational operations. Chancellor of the University of London Professor Wendy Thomson elevated BUV's partnership status with University of London from its current 'Accredited Teaching Centers' to 'International Partners' among their worldwide network. Research collaboration and knowledge exchange between Vietnam and the United Kingdom advances through this step which strengthens international education relations between the two nations.

British Ambassador to Vietnam Iain Frew spoke at the occasion to assert that both quality improvement and relationship deepening between UK and Vietnam education sectors are visible through this expansion.

Deputy Director of the Department of International Cooperation under the Ministry of Education and Training, Nguyen Tien Dung stressed that Vietnam aims to develop educational institutions of international standard and gradually make English the second language in schools. The Ministry of Education and Training has implemented specific measures to achieve these goals, including attracting foreign investment into Vietnam's higher education, establishing international university campuses in Vietnam, and branches of global leading universities in the country.

Vietnam currently has over 23 million students and 240 higher education institutions, including 70 private universities. However, the number of higher education institutions with foreign investment in Vietnam is still limited. Therefore, Vietnam encourages foreign investors to establish universities, contributing to the enhancement of the quality of education in Vietnam.
