DTI, DOLE Collaborate to Enhance Digital Skills in Philippines

  • The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in the Philippines are collaborating on initiatives aimed at enhancing the digital skills of the country's workforce. Trade Secretary Alfredo Pascual held discussions with DOLE Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma to explore areas of cooperation in this regard.

Key topics included initiatives for digital training and workforce development. Pascual emphasized the importance of guiding the workforce towards tasks with higher value creation potential, particularly in digital technology, which relies more on intellectual and creative skills than extensive machinery.

To prepare Filipinos for success in the global market, the DTI is transforming Negosyo Centers into digital learning hubs. This initiative underscores the necessity of adapting to technological advancements and utilizing digital platforms to create innovative and sustainable job opportunities.

By enhancing the digital skills of Filipino workers, Pascual stressed that they not only improve their capabilities but also make significant contributions to the nation's economic growth.

Additionally, officials discussed the implementation of the DOLE-DTI Enterprise Development and Livelihood Assistance initiative, established through a memorandum of agreement signed in May of the previous year. Supported by the International Labor Organization, this partnership aims to create a robust employment framework focused on generating quality and sustainable jobs.

The initiative seeks to promote job creation and enhance the competitiveness of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) by facilitating access to various business services. These services include training, technical assistance, financial and livelihood support, business advisory, shared facilities, and marketing and distribution services.

Overall, the collaboration between DTI and DOLE underscores the government's commitment to fostering a skilled and competitive workforce equipped to thrive in the digital age, while also promoting entrepreneurship and sustainable economic development.
