Dhaka University Launches Center for China Studies

  • Dhaka University has inaugurated a Center for China Studies, marking a significant milestone in the educational and academic exchanges between Bangladesh and China. The opening ceremony, attended by prominent figures including Prof Dr ASM Maksud Kamal, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Dhaka, and Chen Dongxiao, President of the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies, highlighted the deepening collaboration between the two nations in education, academic research, and people-to-people exchanges.

    The event, held, was graced by Yao Wen, the Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh, who extended warm congratulations on the establishment of the center. Ambassador Yao Wen emphasized that the center's inception is a testament to the strong consensus between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, reflecting the deepening friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

    Describing the center as of pioneering significance, Ambassador Yao Wen outlined its role in strengthening mutual understanding, facilitating joint research on bilateral, regional, and global affairs, and amplifying cultural exchange. He envisioned the center as a bridge connecting China and Bangladesh, South Asia, and the world, contributing significantly to mutual understanding, cooperation, and peaceful development.

    Prof Maksud Kamal echoed Ambassador Yao Wen's sentiments, affirming that the center's establishment signifies the profound friendship between Bangladesh and China. He emphasized its importance as a platform for Bangladeshi scholars to delve into Chinese culture, history, and society, aligning with Bangladesh's aspirations for Smart Bangladesh and Vision 2041.

    Highlighting the center's potential as a vital base for promoting Chinese studies and international cooperation in South Asia and beyond, Prof Maksud Kamal expressed hopes for its role in advancing economic, social, and cultural ties between China and Bangladesh.

    Chen Dongxiao emphasized the center's mission to promote economic and social cooperation between China and Bangladesh. He underscored the importance of joint efforts to elevate the center into a high-level, high-standard platform for cultural and people-to-people exchanges, fostering closer bonds between the two nations and contributing to economic and social development.

    The embassy emphasized the center's potential to become a leading research institution with global influence, serving as a core base for China studies in South Asia and Southeast Asia. It urged concerted efforts to realize the center's vision of promoting China-Bangladesh cooperation and enhancing people-to-people bonds.
