China Resources Group has just announced the 'China Resources Corporate Governance Scholarship', supporting students at the Master's level in corporate governance. The award of up to 50 distinguished students studying at four institutions in Hong Kong every year, spread over five years, at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, and Hong Kong Metropolitan University, aims to encourage student excellence and research in corporate governance.
These Master's programs, designed through a Collaboration Course Agreement with The Hong Kong Chartered Governance Institute (HKCGI), offer a direct route into qualified governance professionals. The programmatic curriculum is designed to meet HKCGI's high standards of professionalism, preparing graduates with knowledge and competencies that allow them to fill governance roles in banks' compliance, trust services, and company governance functions. Graduates are also eligible for HKCGI membership, thereby opening up a wide range of career possibilities.
Beyond providing the scholarship with financial aid, the scholarship also comes with internship and job placements so that there is an added encouragement in taking on the governance profession for more of the young. HKCGI and its foundation envision, nurture, and help sustainably grow the next generation of governance professionals through global exposure, forward-thinking mindset, and education that will equip them in this field.
A company called China Resources Group, a century-old Hong Kong-based firm, classifies this as part of a comprehensive agenda to guide young people over challenges in education, employment, entrepreneurship, and homeownership.
HKCGI is one of the fastest-growing divisions of The Chartered Governance Institute, with a membership of over 10,000 members, graduates, and students. The Institute plays an important role in governance in listed companies and other sectors. The mission of HKCGI is to advance governance in commerce, industry, and public affairs through education, thought leadership, and advocacy.
Such a new class of governance professionals would hone the skills in this scholarship, and the hope is that China Resources Group and HKCGI can further contribute to the emergence of this new generation toward better decision-making.
