The recently opened CamTech, a result of Cambodia-China collaboration in human resources development, stands as a significant symbol of the strong people-to-people ties between Cambodia and China, according to the Cambodian education minister. The inauguration of the Cambodia-China University of Technology and Science (CamTech) is geared towards offering young talents ample opportunities for advanced tertiary education. The minister expressed confidence that this university will serve as a transformative institution, capable of shaping the futures of students and realizing their aspirations. Naron emphasized that enhancing the quality of higher education in science and technology is a key strategy for human resources development, aligning with Cambodia's goals of achieving upper middle-income status by 2030 and high-income status by 2050.
As per the minister, the Southeast Asian nation presently boasts 132 higher education institutions, a substantial rise from just eight in 1997. The Cambodia-China University of Technology and Science (CamTech) was collaboratively established by the Federation of Khmer Chinese in Cambodia and the Nanjing Vocational University of Industry Technology. Rith Sovandalin, a 20-year-old student specializing in data science at the recently inaugurated university, expressed that the institution is a valuable source of knowledge for students, particularly in the domains of science and technology. She highlighted the university's well-equipped experimental lab and the availability of majors in modern technologies, addressing the specific needs of Cambodia's job market. Sovandalin, aspiring to become a proficient data scientist, emphasized the scarcity of such professionals in Cambodia and expressed her hope to contribute as a valuable talent in this field upon graduation.
Te Senghok, a 22-year-old student majoring in architecture at the Cambodia-China University of Technology and Science, highlighted that the university places a primary emphasis on technology, distinguishing itself as more contemporary compared to other educational institutions in the country. Expressing his aspirations, he stated, "Upon graduation, my goal is to acquire a specific skill that aligns with my preferences, backed by an internationally recognized degree, facilitating ease in securing employment". Located in the Chroy Changvar Satellite City within Phnom Penh's Chroy Changvar district, the university's campus encompasses a central university building, cutting-edge facilities, an experimental laboratory, a garden, and a cafeteria.
