  • The Bank of Ceylon (BOC) recently honored Sri Lanka’s top students through its annual ‘Nanajaya’ Higher Education Scholarship programme. The ceremony, held on July 26 at the Bank of Ceylon Head Office Auditorium, celebrated the high achievers of the 2022 GCE Advanced Level Examination for the 2022/2023 academic year. The event was attended by Bank of Ceylon’s Chairman Kavan Ratnayaka, General Manager/CEO Russel Fonseka, corporate and executive management, staff members, scholarship recipients, and their families.

This year, the Bank of Ceylon’s ‘Nanajaya’ Scholarship programme granted 383 scholarships, totaling over 30 million rupees, to students who excelled in six major subjects: Biology, Physical Science, Commerce, Arts, Bio System Technology, and Engineering Technology. These scholarships aim to support the educational journeys of the country’s most promising students, assisting them in reaching their academic and career aspirations.

Since its launch in 2003, the ‘Nanajaya’ Scholarship programme has awarded more than 139 million rupees in scholarships to 3,148 students pursuing higher education. The programme is highly esteemed among university students in Sri Lanka, especially those who attain the top Z-scores in the six major subjects of the GCE Advanced Level Examination.

In addition to the ‘Nanajaya’ Higher Education Scholarship programme, the Bank of Ceylon, in collaboration with the Department of Manpower and Employment, runs the ‘Nanajaya’ carrier Guidance programme. This initiative is designed to help GCE Ordinary Level and Advanced Level students make informed decisions about their higher education and career paths, offering them valuable guidance and resources.

Additionally, the Bank of Ceylon has collaborated with popular youth radio stations to introduce the ‘Dream Builder’ career guidance programme. This initiative, designed for university students, aims to enhance the professional development of young people in Sri Lanka by equipping them with the resources and knowledge necessary to forge successful careers.
