Over the past year, the team at Virtualtech Frontier (VTF) has been dedicated to enhancing the accessibility of metaverse technology for students and educators. They achieved this goal through their browser-based metaverse platform, Mitoworld, and have established collaborations with numerous educational institutions across Malaysia. Virtualtech Frontier has been recognized as one of the official digital partners for the Ministry of Education during the introduction of the Digital Education Policy. This recently launched policy by the Malaysian government aims to cultivate a generation of digitally adept students and teachers. The inauguration ceremony took place at the Bangi Avenue Convention Center and was presided over by YB Fadhlina Sidek, Malaysia’s Minister of Education.
The Digital Education Policy is constructed on six key principles, including enhancing students' proficiency in digital content, empowering teachers' digital expertise, fostering a digital culture among education leaders, fortifying infrastructure and information systems within the ministry, and establishing strategic networks with smart partners. According to YB Fadhlina Sidek, the Minister of Education, "Cybergogy, recognized as an innovative instructional model, plays a crucial role in guiding individuals to leverage the opportunities and space provided by the ICT world, particularly in elevating the quality of national education. As virtual worlds become increasingly integral to education, the National Digital Education Policy must establish standards and robust governance for immersive learning".
Furthermore, the Ministry of Education acknowledges the presence of a digital divide between students in urban and rural areas. To solidify the policy, the ministry will persist in improving the capabilities of the internet network and digital infrastructure, recognizing their crucial role in ensuring effective access to digital technology.
