Aga Khan University is the recipient of a prestigious international award

  • The AMEE (Association for Medical Education Europe) 2023 Stellar Award was presented to the Aga Khan University Medical College during an award event in Glasgow, United Kingdom. The Star Award is given to organizations that have received three ASPIRE-to-Excellence awards. In 2013, AKU got the award for excellence in assessment and student involvement, and in 2022, it received the award for curriculum creation. This year, at the AMEE 2023 conference, AKU got the Stellar Award certificate for winning three consecutive accolades in front of delegates from all around the world. These awards, founded in 2013, go beyond the standard certification procedure to recognize world-class educational excellence. Over 50 global universities have earned the ASPIRE-to-Excellence award(s), however, AKU is only the third Stellar Award to receive recognition across three or more categories and the only one from Asia. The other two are from the USA and the UK.

"The award recognizes AKU's consistent commitment to excellence in response to local health needs." Faculty development, a supportive learning environment for students, community outreach, and the use of technology are all essential components in the development of a holistic, forward-thinking, and solution-based healthcare education system," said Dr. Sadaf Khan, Associate Dean for Undergraduate Medical Education and Associate Professor of Surgery at AKU. "This is a proud moment for Pakistan and its academic community," Dr. Adil Haider, Dean of AKU Medical College, stated. He praised the academics and staff for "outstanding contributions to the highest academic quality." AMEE is an international health professions education organization with over 30,000 members from over 130 countries on five continents that support excellence in healthcare education.
