The Anglo-Chinese School (International), a renowned institution in Singapore and abroad, is expanding its reach with ambitious plans for new establishments both domestically and in Indonesia. In Singapore, it is constructing a 10-storey elementary school building adjacent to its existing high school near Holland Village. This new facility, set to accommodate 450 students aged seven to 12, will adopt the Cambridge Primary curriculum provided by Cambridge International Education. Simultaneously, the expansion includes provisions for the growth of its high school enrollment, from 1,100 to 1,400 students, reflecting the institution's commitment to providing quality education across multiple levels.
Mr. Tan Wah Thong, chairman of the ACS (International) board of management, emphasized that while half of the high school's capacity is reserved for Singaporean students, the elementary school will exclusively enroll international students. This decision aligns with Singapore's Compulsory Education Act, which mandates Singaporean children to attend primary education in government or government-aided schools.
Turning to Indonesia, the school is branching out with plans for two new campuses. The first, situated in North Jakarta, aims to serve a distinct catchment area from the existing South Jakarta campus established in 2000. While still in the initial planning phase, this expansion demonstrates the school's commitment to catering to diverse communities.
The second Indonesian venture involves establishing a comprehensive elementary and high school in Bali, specifically in Kura Kura. Positioned as a special economic zone by the Indonesian government and conveniently located a short drive from Bali's Ngurah Rai International Airport, this site promises strategic accessibility. Mr. Rob Burrough, former principal of ACS (International) in Singapore, has assumed the role of principal for the Bali campus, spearheading its development.
