After receiving scholarships from the Russian government, 60 Kenyan students will go to Russia to study. Students will study a variety of courses at the certificate, undergraduate, diploma, and degree levels. During their first year of education, they will also be expected to study Russian. Dmitry Maksimychev, the Russian ambassador to Kenya, stated during a pre-departure briefing for the 2023 candidates at the Heron Hotel that the move will improve public diplomacy and relations with Kenya. "Direct people-to-people relationships are the best way to establish good relations." And this is a fantastic chance," Maksimychev remarked. "The students will be exposed to Russian culture and will have the opportunity to introduce their Russian friends to Kenyan and African culture as well." He advised the kids to take advantage of the chance and come up with big ideas that may be used to alter Kenya. "I wish you well and hope that after graduating from universities throughout Russia, you will return and contribute to the overall development of your wonderful country," Maksimychev added. He stated that in the previous five years, the number of Russian government scholarships has tripled and that efforts are being made to boost the number even higher.
"In 2018, we started with less than 20 places for Kenyan students in Russian higher education institutions." "I want to reassure everyone here that this job will be continued," Maksimychev stated. The Ambassador also revealed that the Russian Centre for Open Education will open in Nairobi in September. He stated that the center will deliver free Russian language classes to about 300 Kenyans. "We will admit 300 people to learn Russian language courses, which will make it easier for Kenyan students to enroll in universities or apply for scholarships." It would be more convenient for them, and the classes are free," Maksimychev explained. "You will receive a certificate certifying that you have a certain level of knowledge of Russia and its languages." It will be a measure of encouragement for individuals who choose to study in Russia." Furthermore, he stated that they would conduct a second intake of online Russian language classes for more than 200 pupils. Interested applicants are encouraged to visit the Embassy's Twitter feed to prevent missing out on the opportunity. "Tell your friends to follow the Embassy's social media (primarily Twitter) in order to not miss out on their chance and get priority during competitive scholarship selection in 2024." "Admission will be on a first-come, first-served basis".
