As China continues to support education in Pakistan's northern regions, fifteen students from the Karakoram International University (KIU) Hunza campus have received financial assistance through the 'China-Pakistan Friendship-Ambassadorial Merit-cum-Need Scholarship' program. Gwadar Pro reported on Tuesday that the students were presented with scholarship checks during a ceremony at the KIU Hunza campus. The event's chief guest was Dr. Safdar Ali Shah, Director General of the Higher Education Commission's (HEC) China-Pakistan Economic Corridor Cell. He divided the money among the students. ”Spend the money on your education to fulfill the purpose of the scholarship”, advised Safdar Ali Shah to the deserving students who qualified for the scholarship. He also expressed gratitude to the Embassy of China for their generous contribution towards education in the northern region.
Every year, 140 scholarships are awarded by the Chinese Ambassadorial Program to needy and talented students from KIU's main campus and sub-campuses. To address the issue of gender balance, at least half of the beneficiaries must be female. the People's Republic of China Embassy in Islamabad awarded a Rs. 7 million grant to KIU in Gilgit-Baltistan to foster educational excellence. At least 130 KIU students will receive financial assistance under the 'China-Pakistan Friendship-Ambassadorial Merit-cum-Need Scholarship' program on June 20, 2023. The program promotes gender balance by awarding at least half of the scholarships to female students at both KIU's main and sub-campuses.
