Malaysia enhances Indian community's access to high-skill technical education

  • Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Malaysia's Deputy Prime Minister, has recently taken a significant stride in improving educational opportunities for the Indian community in the country. In a recent announcement, he affirmed the intention to expand access to high-skill technical and vocational education and training (TVET) programs for Indian students. This initiative aims to uplift the educational and economic standing of these students, equipping them with the essential skills needed to excel in modern technological sectors. Speaking at the Unity Ponggal celebration, Ahmad Zahid highlighted the pivotal role of education as a potent tool for overcoming poverty and achieving social mobility. He stressed that by granting Indian students access to top-notch vocational and technical education, they can be empowered to actively participate in the rapidly evolving job market centered around technology.

    In his capacity as the National TVET Council chairman, Ahmad Zahid pledges to give precedence to creating opportunities for Indian students, specifically in advanced courses like artificial intelligence and electric vehicles. These rapidly expanding global sectors offer graduates promising and enduring career paths, with the potential for lucrative professional prospects.In addition to enhancing access to TVET programs, Ahmad Zahid, who holds the position of Rural and Regional Development Minister, distributed more than 200 tablets to students in public universities. 

    This action serves as a reaffirmation of the government's dedication to promoting digital education and equipping students to confront the demands of the digital era. The event saw the presence of MIC president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran, Deputy Unity Minister Saraswathy Kandasamy, and other community leaders, highlighting the collaborative endeavor to uplift the educational experiences of Indian students in Malaysia.
